Meet Loni Jack, an Indigenous entrepreneur with a passion for excellence. Loni's diverse journey has led her from Vancouver, Canada, to Manitoba, where she currently resides. As a proud Berens River First Nation band member in Treaty 5 territory, her rich Metis heritage, tracing back to her great-grandfather George Edmund McKay (grandson of Angus Mckay), a founding figure in the Manitoba Metis Federation, inspires her commitment to community and innovation.
As the founder of Jack & Co. Consulting, launching in 2023, Loni brings her wealth of experience and entrepreneurial spirit to provide top-notch business services. Joan Jack
Advisor
Joan Jack is a lawyer, Indigenous governance advisor, and activist from Berens River First Nation with nearly three decades of experience in Indigenous, First Nation, Aboriginal, and Treaty Rights law. Called to the Manitoba Bar in 1996, Joan has worked extensively in Aboriginal governance, constitutional development, lands and resources, and Indigenous rights.
Throughout her career, she has advised First Nations governments, supported constitutional drafting, and held leadership roles in lands and resources. She is also the founder of Nakina CALL (Centre for Aboriginal Living and Learning), which supports Indigenous youth and communities through traditional knowledge, cultural learning, and land-based programming.
Joan continues to advocate for Indigenous rights and justice through her legal practice, community work, and activism, including participation in the Treaty Freedom Rides and Medicine Wheel Ride across North America. She currently lives in Tlingit Country in Atlin, British Columbia, where she remains actively involved in her community and the work of Nakina CALL.
Shakil Ahmed
Strategic Development Manager
Shakil is the Strategic Development Manager at Jack & Co. Consulting, bringing a diverse background in lands management, Additions to Reserve (ATR), lands department development, policy and governance, strategic planning, funding, and community development.
His professional experience includes developing lands departments, creating land-related policies and governance frameworks, supporting ATR initiatives, and advancing land-use planning and natural resource opportunities. He also has experience in funding development, project coordination, and organizational planning, providing a well-rounded perspective on the operational and strategic needs of First Nations communities.
Shakil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, with a Minor in Indigenous Studies. His education, combined with his professional experience, supports his commitment to strengthening organizational capacity and advancing sustainable opportunities for Indigenous communities.
Shirley Jack
Indigenous Governance & Community Development Consultant
Shirley is an Indigenous woman with strong connections to family, community, culture, and land. On her matriarchal side, her family comes from Berens River First Nation in Treaty 5 territory in Manitoba. She is also a member of the Taku River Tlingit First Nation in Northern British Columbia, where she lives, works, and raises her family.
Shirley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance, an Indigenous Human Services Diploma, an Indigenous Human Services Certificate, a First Nations Housing Manager Certificate, and a Business Administration Certificate. Her education is complemented by hands-on experience working within Indigenous organizations, community programs, cultural initiatives, human services, and non-profit program management.
Her work is grounded in the understanding that strong Indigenous communities are built through relationships, culture, land, self-determination, and the knowledge already held within our communities. She brings experience in developing and coordinating community programs, planning land-based and cultural programming, working with community members and service providers, supporting organizational planning, navigating administrative systems, and developing written materials that reflect the needs and priorities of Indigenous communities.
